The Director of Education & Interpretation is a managerial position that is instrumental in the growth and development of MSAQ’s Guest Experience & Education team. This position is responsible for leading a comprehensive program that advances MSAQ’s mission through exciting educational initiatives, paying close attention to detail, and ensuring a quality experience. The Director of Education & Interpretation works closely with other departments and is an integral leader for the operations of Mississippi Aquarium. II. Responsibilities: 1. Oversee the success of Mississippi Aquarium’s Education and Interpretation team, areas include daily onsite interpretation, formal education programs such as field trips, summer camp, and outreach, professional development, and assessment. 2. Hire, train, and oversee a team that exceeds MSAQ’s standard of excellence in all areas; support MSAQ’s conservation and research projects, and empower a love for learning for all team members and guests 3. Skillfully manage a budget to maximize impact 4. Work closely with the VP of Guest Experience to write and prepare applications for accreditation, certification, and reaccreditations 5. Provide support for the Interpretation team, mentor and review and approve proposed interpretive programs 6. Work closely with the Ticketing team to ensure proper training, execution and delivery of messaging to guests. 7. Handle resolution opportunities with professionalism and empathy 8. Oversee high quality professional development that is aligned with certification credits 9. Help build and oversee Mississippi Aquarium’s Docent program. 10. Direct and fulfill Mississippi Aquarium’s Accessibility and Inclusion strategic plan. 11. Manage and direct Mississippi Aquarium’s MSAQ U! continuing education program for all staff, volunteers and interns. 12. Work closely with department leaders, always seeking funding opportunities and support Project SAIL 13. Work in a collaborative team environment, cross-train and support all other Guest Experience areas with projects, planning, and training 14. Manage accessibility for all onsite programming and development 15. Fill in and support daily operational needs when necessary 16. Work weekends, evenings, and overnights when necessary

III. Qualifications: 1. Minimum 5-7 years supervising a team in an informal education role 2. Minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in education or related field 3. Strong background in developing and teaching STEAM-based curriculum 4. Certification with the National Association for Interpretation is preferred 5. Must have strong verbal and writing skills 6.
