Camp Counselors are part of the Education team at Mississippi Aquarium that help create high-quality, meaningful learning experiences for Camp Aqua participants. Counselors support daily activities that are fun, engaging, and interactive. Camp Counselors supervise children and enforce safety guidelines. This position allows candidates to gain experience in STEM-driven education and hospitality. Camp Counselors strive to inspire environmental stewardship and the importance of animal conservation.

Requirements: 
Support and lead MSAQ’s Camp Aqua program by setting up activities, assisting with instruction, clean-up, next-day preparations, and assisting with any other daily camp operations. Facilitate activities for campers that are fun, interactive and engaging. Supervise campers at all times; monitor behaviors to ensure safety and wellbeing. Immediately report any and all accidents/incidents and behavior issues to direct supervisor. Care for & organize camp supplies and materials including biofacts, crafts & supplies, microscopes, and other miscellaneous camp items. Pick up and deliver snacks and lunches. Ensure diet restrictions are followed. Provide activities for children during free periods, after snack and lunch. Coordinate camper drop-off and pick-up. Maintain clear and appropriate communication with parents/caregivers to ensure paperwork is complete, children have appropriate gear for the day, and any accidents/incidents are relayed to supervisors. Perform clerical duties as needed including photocopying, printing, faxing, filing, phone calls and messages, data entry, and sending emails. Maintain a clean, safe, and exciting experience for all campers. Perform other duties as assigned.
Recommended Skills: 
QUALIFICATIONS Associates degree in education, recreation, biology, or similar field. At least 1 year experience working with youth in a childcare, science, biology, teaching, camp, recreation, or similar setting. Applicants must be patient, caring, and have excellent customer service skills. Candidates will need to be outgoing and energetic. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction while working independently or part of a team. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, as well as remain in one area for large blocks of time. Ability to adapt to an ever-changing work environment and willing to learn. Strong multitasking and organization skills. Passion for working with to youth from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Comfortable giving instruction to large group of kids of various ages. First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
